A unified view on lifetime distributions arising from selection mechanisms

چکیده
For the first time, we formulate a flexible density function from the selection mechanism viewpoint (see, for example, Bayarri & DeGroot (1992) and ArellanoValle et al. (2006)) which possesses nice biological and physical interpretations. The new density function contains as special cases many models that have been proposed recently in the literature. In our model, we assume that the number of competing causes of the event of interest has a general discrete distribution characterized by its probability generating function. This function has an important role in the selection procedure as well as in computing the conditional personal cure rate. We illustrate how various models can be deduced as special cases of the proposed model.

Model Selection Based on Tracking Interval Under Unified Hybrid Censored Samples
The aim of statistical modeling is to identify the model that most closely approximates the underlying process. Akaike information criterion (AIC) is commonly used for model selection but the precise value of AIC has no direct interpretation. In this paper we use a normalization of a difference of Akaike criteria in comparing between the two rival models under unified hybrid cens...
متن کاملCan Scaffolding Mechanisms of Structuring and Problematizing Facilitate the Transfer of Genre-based Knowledge to Another Discourse Mode?
A pivotal issue in research on writing concerns whether the knowledge of how genres are constructed and learned in one discipline/genre can be transferred to other contexts, genres, and disciplines. Yet, studies conducted so far have not presented a unified and complete view of how various writing instructional techniques can result in transferability. This study examined the effect of structur...
متن کاملOrdered Random Variables from Discontinuous Distributions
In the absolutely continuous case, order statistics, record values and several other models of ordered random variables can be viewed as special cases of generalized order statistics, which enables a unified treatment of their theory. This paper deals with discontinuous generalized order statistics, continuing on the recent work of Tran (2006). Specifically, we show that in general neither re...
متن کاملIshita Distribution and Its Applications
The analyzing and modeling real lifetime data are crucial in many applied sciences including medicine, engineering, insurance and finance, amongst others. The two important one parameter lifetime distributions namely exponential and Lindley [2] are popular for modeling lifetime data from biomedical science and engineering. Recently, Shanker et al. [3] have conducted a comparative and critical s...
متن کاملA Simulation Study On Ishita Distribution
It is crucial to generate random number for mathematical model especially probabilistic model. To use simulation, it is necessary to generate the sample random events that make up the model with the help of a computer to reproduce the process through which chance is generated in the actual situation. Thus, a problem that involves many interrelationships among random variables can evaluate as a ...
